Firstly, where were Destruction and the RvR we were promised? We (Order) lost control and I expected a “Horde” to pour into the land of the dead, nothing, nada, not even any ghosts. Have I missed the boat on this again? Sometimes I couldn’t even catch a cold, when it comes to finding a fight. So in the whole evening the guild group killed one person and saw the death spam for 3 others (Approximately), though admitted this wasn’t the primary purpose of the evening. So a whole area populated by maybe 20 people. Not a good sign really and definitely not a good return on development time. I do hope other servers LotD are much more populated. I have said, as have many others, this game is population dependant and increasing the playable area, only thins that population out even further.

I honestly thought that at least a few people would come through and suggest one thing they would like to change in Warhammer, which was the subject of my previous post. But after a couple of days and no a hint of a comment, I have to assume that people are either truly bone idle or are so happy with Warhammer that Mythic can sit back and enjoy the feeling of a job well done. Funnily I don’t think it’s the latter, but maybe that’s just my perception. Okay, so with that moan over with, onto a more normal service.

Okay, we’re all pretty clear on what LotD currently provides e.g. more PVE content and some situational RVR. But does it seek to solve a greater underlying problem in tier 4 ORvR and city capture? Is it meant to provide a distraction and ultimately a splitting of your opponents forces?

When you go about developing anything, it’s important to keep in mind the overall goal, since that’s what the client will be expecting. Normally you will be touching base with the client on a regular basis, just to be sure you are all still singing from the same hymn-sheet. Now in Mythics case, they are developing things for a client base, which doesn’t have a massive say in what gets done. The main responsibility is to deliver something which is fun and says what it does on the packet. So in the process of building X, then need to be sure that the message they are conveying about X ties into what they are going to deliver.

Honestly, there is nothing in there, that if you’ve read the 1.3 patch notes you will already be fully informed, but if you are a completest, then here it is, Part 2.

I do hope Mythic have set realistic resourcing target levels for each side when LotD rolls out, so population mismatches are dealt with from the off. It would be silly not to have prepared suitable targets.

Regarding the 1.3.0 changes, there are some very welcome ones, such as the crafting bag. How this was every missed or skipped, is beyond me. You only have to play a salvager to know about the insufficient storage.

The customisable action bars will be nice, the current ones are quite inflexible to be honest.

The scenario changes which effect the items which need to be carried are a bonus, to many times you grab a flag/bomb because it’s undefended and get nothing for it, especially when you are out of range of your team and are denied the realm points they have been earning. So carrying the flag can be a totally thankless task. Tablec Dam, Black Fire Basin, Phoenix Gates can be hardly worth the effort of participating, rarely making the 500 points, that Tor Anroc does so simply.

You will notice a lot of the scenarios that had this carry bomb/flag issue, will get a bonus. Which will hopefully uplift the score in these scenario to something worthwhile.

The pet changes will also be welcome, I am fed up with my White Lion going slower than a slug when attacking another player.

There are a multitude of other changes in 1.3.0, but since Europe doesn’t get them till tomorrow, I will have no real impressions until the end of the week. I hope that if you already stuck into the pre-LotD Live Event, you are having a good time.

Finally, who is off to watch Transformers this weekend?

Well the LotD PR campaign is fully loaded and being unleashed on many a blog and news site. As usual it’s been nicely done and all credit to the PR department. Now apart from being amused by it’s charm, the question I ask myself, am I really that bothered by it. I mean, I am sure the scarab effect will be nice, but does it really impact on me as a player. Do I even care about working out the puzzle? Does this intern say a lot about me, about the type of player I am?  Regardless of my lethargy, Kazamxi has got together all of the story currently available, so follow the yellow brick road.

A bit short of time at the moment, so I will quickly point you to some 1.3 information and a Land Of The Dead preview. Check out the screen shots, which contain some very nice detailing. Don’t forget to read all 3 pages of the LotD preview, some nice PQ variations in there. The purge and gaining control of the LotD are briefly described as well.

As you can see, both articles came from www.mmorpg.com and were based on the Baltimore Games Day. It seems that often the news sites get the big scoops, which is normal, but a few bones to the bigger bloggers like Syp, wouldn’t go amiss.

Land Of The Dead Trailer

Normally, you don’t show the majority of the clips you are going to use in the trailer, before you roll it out. However in this case, contrary to normal marketing behaviour, if you have been frequenting Werits , then you will have seen the majority of this trailer, via clips over the previous couple of days.

It was used in the Hickman and Barnett interview. Ho Hum. Well at least now it’s easily accessible via the games login box. Mmmm left hand doesn’t know what right hand is doing, springs to mind.

So without further ado, the “Trailer For Land Of  The Dead”.
