I finally “Got It” this morning, after a night of simmering annoyance and rereading the patch notes. Sometimes it would be nice if certain changes came with an instruction manual, as to the whys and wherefores. A single line can cover quite significant changes. I’d just like to point out, I’m not a bloody mushroom.
Effectively Tier 3 will now offer protection for the lower RRs (Upto RR72) from the almighty RR80+’s, and when you finally get to RR70ish, you get to buy a new armour set which will more adequately protect you from the RR80+’s, that had been previously ravaging your arse. All in preparation for a permanent move into Tier 4.
I really don’t know what’s going to happen with crest acquisition now, unless it’s no longer a rigid relationship to a tier, but is somehow tied to your RR and when a keep flips you get crests that are most relevant to your RR, but that could become very messy. The problem I would foresee with this is, how do you get the crests for lower RRs, so I can still purchase certain jewelry. Maybe that’s a moot point once your rank goes higher, but I like the one I can buy with Warlord crests.
Of course, this probably means that you can effectively jump between tier 3 and tier 4 turning up for keep flips. So now more than ever, you’ll need some kind of app to tell you which keeps are doing what in both these tiers. Of course it’s expensive and you’ll eat the money up, but you should fly through the RR’s and it should allow you to accumulate keep flips at a steady rate.
So I’m a little bit more understanding than yesterday, but still feel uncomfortable about changing the framework. What’s going to happen to population in the upper tiers?
I know Mythic can’t add a Tier 5, it’s really not a viable change given the resources it would require, just to have the game effectively stand still, because I’m afraid that’s how it would be perceived.
What’s really funny is, that I can’t remember jack about tier 3, it’s been such a long time since I was down there.
It’s important that Mythic conveys to the user base what these changes are delivering, because not everyone is going to sift through forum posts just to have it really explained to them. Communication is going to be key here. When the patch notes go up on patch day, the first line needs to be a link to a document explaining what it all really means.
A little apology to Hypothical, because he said this last night but I only read his post after I had written this splurge.
Edit: Changed the title from “Tier 3 Is The New Tier 4” to “Tier 3 Is The Old Tier 4”. Big doh on my part.
