You’ll probably be aware that I’m not a great fan of the insane number of emblems required to purchase anything in Warhammer. I know it’s not meant to be easy, but you currently need to devote insane amounts of time to make any serious progress. It’s got to the point that I really can’t face doing them on my Runepriest, so I’ll be looking to see if any viable alternates come up in Thanquol’s Incursion loot table.
At this time I’m not completely clear on how the reward mechanism is going to work for this new dungeon, but I have to assume that it’s going to be medallion/emblem based, with repeated visits, many of. So why not have a hybrid system which combines a tokenised currency (medallions/ emblems) with the gaining of influence with a faction, which in this case would be the Skaven.
It kind of makes sense, since the Skaven are aligned to no side, but sit on the fence, changing with the wind depending on your own potential influence. So why not take advantage of that.
So obviously as you kill the bosses you gain influence, since aren’t we rightly to be feared if we can achieve this? But also within the dungeon are other tasks/kill that can gain influence. Never a lot, but enough to make slow progress if you find the event to one-sided. This effectively means you would be avoiding the fight, but since you’re in an RvR dungeon, probably not for too long.
So imagine we have 10 levels of influence, 4 of those levels tie into the character types you can morph into within ORvR. Without the required influence you don’t get the ability, the rest of the ladders can broken down into weapons/armour/potions and stuff that degrades over time. Am I making any sense? I did wonder if some of the items could actually be bought with cash, is that a bit old-fashioned?
Of course the sequence of the Skaven character types in this influence ladder is dependant on your character type. So tank would have a rat ogre as the first character type they could morph into once the prerequisite was met.
Lets not get too bogged down on what appears where in the ladder, but reaching various points opens up the option to trade with the Skaven. This then means you’d have to get through their dishonour guard to trade with them. Again influence/respect is acquired through this very necessary slaughter. I know some people will partake in the dungeon long enough to perform a trade with the skaven and then do a bunk, but maybe they’d stick around to complete the dungeon. You could have the winner of the final stage, have the skaven guard dismissed as an extra reward, if you didn’t have time during the actual fight itself to carry out any purchases.
Now as you reach a particular step in the ladder, you effectively lock in your ability to trade with the skaven at that level, however until you reach the next step in the ladder your influence can degrade over time. When you finally reach step 10, you can’t lock out this final step, it will always degrade back to 9. Lets say a month to slip back from 10 to 9, with 4 – 6 successful trips to the dungeon required to achieve step 10 again. Nothing is concrete, just throwing shit up into the air to see where it lands. I appreciate the degradation of influence is a bit of a contentious idea, but if you want the very best goodies maybe an incentive is needed.
What I really want, is for this influence ladder to provide some kind of offset to the number of tokens required to buy gear. I do appreciate that influence and tokens would be acquired at the same time, effectively halving the workload required, but I’m sure the numbers could be tweaked to provide a more balanced progression. I know we can easily get into influence grind, ala WoW, but it’s always nice to have a few things progressing at the same time, to help distract from the numbers involved.
A question to anyone out there who has a high-ranking RP. What staffs do you end up using, if you switch from an RP using willpower to an RP using intelligence. Since when I look at all the emblem staffs, they are all willpower based. Which isn’t much use when I am using intelligence for my healing base stat, via the Rune Of Breaking.
