So what follows next is all related to a thread on Thanquol’s Incursion within The Developer Roundtable, which as you’ll know is on the Bioware forums. Okay so I’ll admit, I’m a bit confused on one little detail, which I’ll get to in a moment.
At this time if the Skaven dungeon spawns aka Thanquol’s Incursion, the resources gathered from the BOs within a particular ORvR zone are effectively diverted into the Skaven dungeon. Hence the reason our galant RR65’s+ need to get in there and save the day. No no no, it’s nothing to do with loot, how could you even think that!!!
Now this is where I’m a bit confused. In the dungeon there are siphoning machines which link back to the BO, so I can only assume there are 4 of these devices. As these machines are destroyed, then they’re associated BO reverts back to a neutral state and can be re-captured for the good of the realm, blah, blah, blah.
So if a dungeon instance can only hold 24 people, then what happens to the rest of the RR65+? Now even I can’t imagine that they’ll only be one instance of the dungeon available, so if that’s the case, which siphoning machine when destroyed will be allowed to release control of that BO. I’m starting to see in my head a multitude of alternate realities all linked together to form a ninth dimensional space.
Okay I’m still confused, so just have a look at these particular postings on that thread by Keavan Freeman, because my head is starting to hurt, two postings in a day drains me.
1. Portal Appearance / Resource Points / General ORvR Connectivity
Questions about these types of things are understandable, and follow naturally after the information that went out earlier today. While we’re still in the process of fine tuning the details, what I can tell is this: At the moment, when the Skaven dungeon becomes available, all resources in the zone stop accumulating. Resource generation will not continue again until the Skaven incursion has been dealt with. ORvR balance will not change – keep levels stay the same, and you still have access to any bombers or siege your keep levels allow – the only thing that changes is BOs stop generating resources.
Then a little bit later we had.
2. So.. a little more insight into the Incursion. Thanquol and his lot have set up devices under the ORvR areas with the specific intent to divert BO resources to their own coffers. Because both realms require these resources to level their keeps, having the Skaven cut off the flow of those resources insures that their role in Campaign is marked and significant; it has a meaningful impact on how the flow of the game progresses, and on the game play of everyone involved. We didn’t want this to be some minor ambient event that flitted about in the background hoping for a modicum of attention – We intended for this to have a major impact on the ORvR experience, giving the players a very real decision on how to proceed, with very real and measurable outcomes resulting from those decisions.
At the moment, we’re still working out the specifics on how/when the Incursion takes place. Currently, however, the idea is, when the Incursion happens, it happens all over ORvR at once – meaning all BOs in ORvR are shut down, with a warp-energy gate appearing at each.
As I said in an earlier post, the only thing that changes in ORvR is the BOs stop generating resources. Both keeps will continue to function normally at whatever level they happen to be at when the Incursion begins. There are no penalties or debuffs levied upon players who stay above ground to continue fighting outside the dungeon. While the RR65+ players head to the dungeon, there is still the good fight to fight. That does not change.
3. By now as Keavan so rightly says
Much of the frustration being voiced so far is coming from a lack of information on some of the details on how the Incursion and general ORvR fighting fit together. This is totally understandable. Please know that we are very much aware of the issue, and as soon as I’m able to get you more information on the subject, I will.
4. At which point Keavan clarifies a wee point.
Sorry for the confusion…Only the current zone is affected.
5. At which point we have the last entry from Keavan for now.
Alright guys, just wanted to give you some more information on how the Incursion fits with ORvR:
Battlefield Objectives and their Resources
BOs stop generating resources, because the Skaven have invaded the area and have constructed Siphoning Contraptions to steal resources from you. This does not drain already-accumulated resources from your keep, it only stops further gathering from the affected BO. When this happens, the BO switches to a Skaven controled state – which means neither Realm is in control of any BO once the Incursion hits.
Battlefield Objectives and their Connection to the Dungeon
Inside the dungeon are Siphoning Contraptions. These are destroyable objects which will have to be taken out in order to restore the flow of resources to the keeps above ground. There is one Siphon per Battlefield Objective, and once one is destroyed, it stops siphoning resources from the BO it was hooked into.
Battlefield Objectives Durring an Incursion
As each Siphon is destroyed inside the dungeon, the BO it was attached to flips to a Neutral state, and is available to begin generating resources again once it is recaptured. As soon as it becomes Neutral it can be recaptured; it is not necessary to wait for the Incursion to be totally completed. It is very likely that all BOs will become active again after about 5-10 minutes. Players above ground will have to fight and take these BOs when they unlock; at which point resources will begin to gather again, giving keeps the potential to level and the campaign to advance.
So after all that, is there 1 or more instance of the Incursion? It didn’t seem to be answered.
Well I’m sure after tonight’s event it will all become crystal clear. Though one question I did have, what if there aren’t enough RR65s, does the dungeon spawn? If it does and no one successfully completes the destruction of the siphoning machines, how long before the dungeon despawns, if at all, or do we have to bugger off to another zone? What if there isn’t another zone to go to? As always, El Diablo truly is in the details.
I agree totally, that this should be something that can be ignored, otherwise why bother creating the encounter.
So for all those going to tonights PTS event, have fun and post some good screenshots. There is nothing I enjoy more than a cup of coffee and a few screenies to drool over.
