First off, I only managed to stay on for about 1.5 hrs, so I didn’t see the conclusion of the evening. So up to 9.30 PM GMT, I basically saw Order give destruction the run around. Destruction seemed to blob up more than order, which allowed order to control the BO’s for longer and hence get to the Garrison Of Skulls sooner. What happened after that, I have no idea, though the rams bugging slowed things down a little.
I did have a wee chuckle when someone from destruction came into the vent order channel to moan about the number of bright wizards and slayers order seemed to be fielding. I would hasten to point out that not everyone specs AOE, I’ve been a single target BW, since I was only 5 pixels high. Am I gimping myself, who knows?
Oh yes another bug bear from that evening, YOU DON’T NEED TO HAVE YOU VERY BEST GEAR FOR A TEST, IT’S AN F’KING TEST YOU IMBRED, IF YOU CAN’T UNDERSTAND THAT PLEASE DON’T LOG ON, YOU OBVIOUSLY DON’T MEET THE MINIMUM INTELLIGENCE QUOTA and a deep breath, aaaaahhhhhh.
So what were my thoughts on the test in Praag which I felt was more meaningful, since most of us haven’t been near tier 3 in quite a while? I think it’s a winner, it’s not perfect yet and it’s too open to abuse by the Warhammer underclass, but I think it’s going to work.
Changes I would still like to see.
1. Idle hands or a localised reward for the resource carrier reaching the war camp. Andy B. came on the vent channel for a while and I tried to get my point across, but was drowned out by the multitude. Probably not the best place to have a conversation.
We cannot allow inactivity to be rewarded. If you want it to be fair, then we give a 5 minute warning, then after 5 more minutes the character in question either gets ported back to the warcamp or they become highlighted on the map. Lets just say the “Fog of war clears and blah blah blah” you can all race towards the afking son of a gun, then lets see how fast that character starts moving. I’m not overly interested in whether they’re guarding a BO, if you get the first warning, then move your character.
It was argued that people shouldn’t be punished for issues outside the game, like the baby waking up. Let me just say, babies don’t wake up that often and yes 5 mins is enough for a ciggie break.
You only get a RP reward if you are within a certain distance of the resource carrier or its originating BO. Lets take an arbitrary figure of 60% of travel time, so on a 1 minute 40 second journey (Allowing for additional time due to snares), you must have been within the prescribed distance for 60 seconds. It allows you to get a bit distracted by a melee, but not lose focus on the job in hand.
This way, you can guard the carrier or the BO, but you can’t stay just in front of the Warcamp and hope to guide them each in and hope to gain from the easy option. The latter solution may impose more of a loading on the server, but luckily that’s not my problem.
Obviously each solution has a varying degree of reward. The first option would mean zone wide rewards, the second more localised, so some modifier would be needed to bring them into line, if so desired. You could say that the localised reward may breed more zerging as people hurry between BO’s/carriers, but it would mean people are travelling around more between points. I don’t have any data on patterns, so I really couldn’t say.
2. Now I am in 2 minds about the guard on the flag. If you put one on, then the tougher he is, the less chance he has of being killed during the quiet times, which isn’t good. You don’t the situation, where people don’t feel they can’t get the ball rolling on flipping a zone, unless they have a tank and a healer turn up.
Now I know that this allows zones to be flipped during quiet times, but do you know what, people who are on lates deserve a chance to get to go to the city. It’s a 24 by 7 game and people shouldn’t be denied their fair share of the pie, because you’re not on. If a tree falls in a forest and no one is around to hear it, does it still make a sound? Doesn’t this also hold true for a city siege? If you’re not around does it really matter if it happened?
Finally, I read that some people are concerned that this new system will allow people to take an easy out and bunk off to another zone, to leave it uncontested to your opponents. Absolutely correct, as soon as we get to keep defence I’m off. I bloody hate the things, they just bore me rigid.
Take last night for instance, where order were camped out in the Arbor Of Light in Eataine. The numbers climb around the keep, the lag increases and disrupts start to hamper your ability to play your character, that’s assuming that you haven’t been disconnected by the server before then. So yes, this new mechanism will allow be to actually play in a style which is more to my tastes. Because I honestly believe, that some of my opponents, if they’re not already in another zone, will join me once there is action is elsewhere. I play the game to have fun, not to fulfil some deep-rooted need to progress characters. If you have a good night, then the points are academic, they’re a nice bonus but that is all.
If I get a reasonable group going, then the last place I will be, is in the most active zone.
