So I spent about 45 mins this morning on Warpblade testing the 1.4 changes, just to get a better feel, since it was so busy Friday night and I was a wee bit tipsy. Not a great combination for getting a good overview of things.
Now assuming there are no bugs to do with the RP/XP rewards on Warpblade, then you get a RP & XP amount for capturing the oppositions castle and effectively flipping the zone. You don’t get any points for holding a BO, guarding the resource carrier or anything else, it’s all or nothing. Victory or defeat. Not great if you have to log off before zones are captured. You get nothingggggg.
The in zone fighting better be bloody terrific, if this isn’t going to turn into a steaming pile of pooh. There may well be motivational issues to get people to protect the BO’s, even if its ultimate goal is flip the zones (You can stick you’re, for the Realm, in situations like that). Oh and I ‘m assuming that if I’m in the zone, I get the RP bonus for capturing the castle? Or does it mean a mad dash to the castle(s), once the castles become attackable, to get the castle capture RP bonus.
At the moment, sometimes the only quantifiable points for myself come from the BO captures, since once some of the kills are sliced and diced into segments, you have to pray that Mythic are rounding up the numbers, they’re that small. Of course the new flattening of the RR levels up to 80 (easier mode), in 1.4 may make this more palatable. Maybe Mythic have no choice in flattening the curve/boosting RP per kill, given that the RP from BO flip flops are going to be unavailable soon.
A small note to Mythic. I used to get a warm fussy feeling when a zone flipped and I would get all those BO and keep bonus’ scroll quickly up. The lump sum reward isn’t quite same in 1.4, though I am sure I’ll quickly forget. You know us gamers, never nostalgic for the old days!
So if I may raise the question. Isn’t this going to be a mailbox camping mark II? Okay I will have to put myself at risk by being outside the warcamp, with a quick trip to the oppositions castle to throw a brick at the window, but what’s to stop me just sitting on my arse, counting sheep.
I can’t imagine that Mythic haven’t considered this problem, having addressed it only recently with a patch to restrict abuse, but with no BO’s to run yourself around, you really don’t have to go very far to get a seemingly greater reward that before.
I do have another question, since I don’t have the information to hand. I was rewarded 1231 RP for flipping the zone in tier 3 and 1404 RP for capturing the castle (There was a smidging of fighting). What does a straight forward, march up to the doors and kick them in, give in terms of RP in tier 3? Basically where does 1404 RPs stack up against the current rewards?
On a more playing the game note, I did notice today the bombs falling from the undersides of bomber command, sweet enough I suppose. Some how on Friday night, I’d missed them.
I’d like to see the new mini status panel, give an indicator of when the carrier is on route. It currently representation seems to mirror the carrier sitting at the BO flag status.
This morning what was interesting, is that 6 people can comfortably flip a zone, so the night owls are in for some quiet city attacks. Why share the loot, when you don’t have to. To be honest, do you really care if the city is open to attack while you’re a sleep? Attacking the city is hardly the same as 150 people getting up at 6am, to take the Relics in DAOC.
Finally, I was intrigued to see the battering ram, is positioned on the battlements in Passwatch castle, not the most obvious place to put it, but I suppose you’ll learn where it’s being dumped soon enough. Personally I would have had it sitting on the ground floor of the inner keep facing the main doors. What I did find confusing, was the ability to pick up another ram, while one was being deployed already, then seemly having it disappear on me while I was travelling to the castle.
UPDATE: Werit pointed me to a post in the dev forums (see Werits comment), where this was stated.
The reward setup for BOs is not fully implemented on PTS at this time. Essentially what will happen is when a Resource Carrier successfully makes his or her way to the Warcamp, allied players within the RvR lake (who pass the same Requirement Check on earning Zone Flip rewards) will be awarded Experience, Renown and Influence. The amount of the reward granted differs from Carrier to Carrier based upon the length of the path he or she takes but, in general, will result in more “Reward Per Second” than BOs currently offer.
If you read further on in the thread, you will see the pro’s and con’s with this, which are pretty obvious.
