When all else fails and you have addressed the obvious, then it’s got to be ….. The mother f*!king addons. Yep, after rebuilding my machine, adding in the final parts of the master plan (PSU and SSD) today, reinstalling the Windows 7 Ultimate 64bit, it was still running like a 3 legged dog within Warhammer Online, when set to the fastest frame rate settings.
So I thought what else can it be? The last item on my list were the addons, which I had discarded early on without even a simple test, since I considered them inconsequential in the grand scheme of things. I mean how could they possibly be the cause of my abysmal performance.
Now I have never considered myself a big addon fan, just a few essentials, but I was at my wit’s end midway through this evening, so I thought what else do I have to lose. So I moved ever single addon out of the addon directory and performed a /reloadui and went out into the Chaos Wastes, looking for something to shag up my frame rate.
Now immediately I noticed that the frame rate was higher than before, but that was very circumstantial, nothing concrete, just a man searching in the dark for any positives in a crappy situation, but bit by bit, I got to feel more confident.
Now it’s going to be a good few more nights, before I’m totally happy, but the stuttering seems to have gone for now. If after a week of ORvR, the frame rate stays up and doesn’t start stuttering, then I will move each addon back in, in an effort to identify the one or more which are responsible (if that is the case). If I was to hazard a guess it would be buff head, but that’s a wild shot in the dark.
Just for reference, below is what I had installed.
What’s slightly amusing (in a smash ones head against the wall kind of way), is that while I was perusing various blogs tonight, I came across Mr Mehs and he was having similar issues and there in the comments was someone saying …. Disable your addons, posted 6 hours before I stumbled across it myself. I suppose that you only see certain things when you are really looking for them. All I can say is AAAArrrrrrggggghhhhhh.
Fingers crossed and with a bit of luck someone else can learn from this without having to throw money at the problem.
