One of the very pleasant by-products of leveling purely in ORvR, has been the acquisition of the various wards, that used to require numerous painful trips through a number of very similar looking dungeons, stuck under the streets of Altdorf. Dungeons, I think we’d all agree, haven’t exactly been Mythics strong point to date. Maybe the Tomb Of The Vulture Lord is the exception to the rule, but having never visited the place, I can’t really comment.
It’s one of the changes that Mythic made a long while a go, which I’ve only just come to appreciate for its neatness. As per normal I’m behind the curve on these things, but I always like to mention these little nuggets when they add to overall completeness of the game. It’s one of those things that you just wish had been in from the start.
What it does highlight, especially to me, is how damaging mechanisms which continually force the player, to buttheads with the god of randomness, can be. You shouldn’t be stretching out content just to fill a void in said content, without people walking away with their subscriptions in hand. I’m pretty sure that the Warhammer dungeons and the original ward system didn’t help with retention. Anyway I digress.
As it stands at the moment, with Laminar at 38 CL and 40 RR, I’ve acquired 5/5 Lesser Wards, 4/5 Greater Wards and 1/5 Superior Ward. With both the Greater and Superior Wards, you can get 4/5 without having to PvE, which is nice. However the Greater Wards 5th segment requires 3 captures of fortresses, which are currently AWOL. A quick trip to your Tome Of Knowledge will verify all this.
The one question I did have, I ended up travelling to Gaarawarrgabs to get answer for, was how the wards related to the new city seige? This is the answer I got from the mighty one (It’s in the comments of his original post, at the bottom).
Each stage of the City Siege is a warded encounter in terms of the NPCs, and in Stage 3 the Champion players. In regards to the NPCs, since they don’t fight back, they only matter in terms of the amount of damage you do towards the NPCs. In Stage 3, they work fully in regards to incoming/outgoing damage for the Champions. So, if you’re getting 1 or 2-shot by Champions in Stage 3 of the City, chances are you’re not properly warded. Stage 1 requires Greater, Stage 2 is Superior and Stage 3 is Excelsior.
It’s always nice to have things clarified. It also explains why the champions were turning me into a smear on the throne room floor.
