Before I carry on with the main part of the post, I have a little explaining to do. Werit wrote about his particular affection for the lockout timer last Wednesday (Which I also happened to comment upon). So firstly I’m going to apologise for 2 posts with the same title/subject within a week. Secondly it’s very possible that Werits post stuck in my mind more than I realised, but it was only when I was reading Wasdstomps Gaming Blog Slapping High Fives, that it dawned on me that this had happened. It’s also very probable that his post helped me make the click when I was trying to explain my luck last Friday.
Now this one true love started on Friday afternoon, when I stumbled into a city seige, 40 mins before having to pick up my daughter. As you may or may not know, my experiences of the whole city seige thing have been very varied. So Order started off and pretty much held destro back on their attempts to take the 1st two control points. Having been finally overwhelmed there, we fell back to the emperors circle. We held and held, nice work, tick in the box, though to be honest we had their number. Now what happened next was really nice to see, destro organised themselves properly and pretty much 90-95% of them hit us from behind. Isn’t it nice to see a nicely organised attack. Okay it was touch and go for a while due to that attack, but eventually we ran down the timer for victory.
So here I am, a lowly level 34 BW looking around at 6 or so level 40 BW’s. I thought, bugger me, I’ll be lucky to get the crumbs off the table, once they’ve had their roll. But blow me, I won a gold back and a nice piece of invader armour. Lady luck was looking down on my skinny ass. Anyway to cut a long story short, after a close victory in stage 2, I won a 2nd piece of armour, warlord this time. Okay, so no one gets that lucky twice in row, especially at level 34. At which point, it slowly dawned on me, what must be happening….. Lovely Lockout timers …. So I must now declare my undying love the lockout timer. Question? Are the lockout timers for the IC and Altdorf different?
So time was ticking away and I really needed to leave to pick up my daughter, before the good lady wife returned home from work. Not a good idea to be stuck on the computer, playing games. So I’m thinking …. maybe I can squeeze stage 3 in, with this run of luck I could have a complete sweep on the golden loot bags. Suddenly I hear the key turning in the front door … “Goodbye everyone, good luck, wifes home, gotta go”. As I log out, I see the comment “bugger the caster champion is logging out”. First time ever to be the champion and I’m having to do a forced shutdown. I’m still trying to find out if order won the 3rd stage with 4 to 3 champions at the start.
As an infrequent player, who doesn’t have the opportunity to go to a city seige every day, maybe even 3 times a day, when I do get into a good scenario warband, by virtue of being good, they will have probably already won something in the recent past, thereby excluding themselves from any loot. Leaving yours trully to reap the benefits. How can I dislike a mechanism that rewards me for turning up and tickling the foe? Of course if you’re a heavy-duty player, then it must be quite annoying.
However this does kind of address a concern I had about armour in my Armour Dilemma post. Hell if I have this much luck going forward (Big love to the lockout), then my armour worries maybe well be a thing of the past. Of course the real problem maybe the jump from Annihilator to Invader. Conqueror could be the real problem. I appreciate for a lot of you, this is all pretty obvious, but for me who’s only now going to try and push up the RRs with my 3rd level 40.
PS – Friday nights loot doesn’t even come close to making up for the shocking performance of the England team that night. I’ll be signing the lot of them up for football school over the summer holidays, to practise their passing.
