Good news is always pleasant, nothing more so than the arrival soon of the endless trial in Europe, but I’ve also got a nagging feeling that it’s not quite as good as it could have been.
When looking at the restrictions, I notice things like new trial accounts, but no mention of reactivating the old accounts. So if you’ve got a unsubscribed account, you don’t seem to be able to use that for the endless trial. Maybe you can, but it’s not up on the FAQ and it should be.
I know it would bug me, if I was forced to create a new account because my old one hadn’t been enabled for the endless trial, by default. Could I even be bothered to create one? Wouldn’t that have been a marvelous opening gambit… “Henceforth Your Accounts Are Now Enabled For Endless Tier 1 Play, Come Get Some”.
Maybe that will come in time, but it’s just a shame that it’s not there at the start. It’s like half the job is done. AAAArrrrggghhh. Maybe Mythic are concerned the servers couldn’t handle it? Hell if we had 750K players come back to the number of servers we have now, they’d probably melt. OMG imagine having to queue again.
Unfortunately you’re also limited to the tier 1 chaos vs empire pairing, which is also another mistake. Why limit people to one tier 1 pairing? Isn’t the main goal to get people to go onwards from tier 1. Yes it’s giving away more free content than you’d probably like, but it’s going to grate less if the action switches to the elf lands and they’re stuck in the chaos vs empire pairing.
Isn’t the point to entice the player with the varied nature of the game? I’m not sure that the empire vs chaos pairing is diverse enough for all peoples tastes. If the endless trial is opened it up to all old player accounts, then you’d have to open elf and dwarf tiers, merely to spread the load. I just can’t help that it’s another missed opportunity. Again if I’m wrong, which I hope, then good.
Finally some good news on the guild front. Some of my guildies will be returning to Warhammer, from Aion! No longer will I be Larry no mates. Bluesky made a telling comment about Aion.
It’s going to have fewest number of people who’ve actually stayed long enough to cap a character, that he could remember in a MMO.
Maybe that’s just with the people he is currently playing with, but if it turns out to be a fact, it could mark a rather short peak for Aion.
