Yep, it’s sadly going to the giant server farm in the clouds. Currently we have 4 english speaking servers in Europe and that’s soon going to be 3, which is now only one more english server than during the whole of my DAOC lifetime. Infact, if I look at the German and French server numbers, then there hardly any better.
This rationalisation of server population is happening because Karak Eight Peaks numbers have tended to be in the region of low vs low, most of the time.
Lets be honest, there is not much room left for server rationalisation in Europe. I can’t even remember how many european servers we had at the start of the great Warhammer saga, but it was significant. I really can’t put this merger in a positive light. Yes, we will have more people to fight, but if this population shrinkage continues at the current rate, this game may well have a shorter life span than DAOC.
I really do hope that this perceived downward spiral can be reversed, but even if the population levels climb back to more than any one server can handle. How do you convince people to migrate, when it’s common knowledge that the game only thrives with large numbers of people? It’s also doesn’t create a positive impression for any returnees, when the first thing they see, is that they have been moved again.
Well Tuesday is the big day, when I get to move to my new home. I can’t honestly remember which server the guild has chosen, but ultimately it’s unimportant, it’s all about the war.
