When I originally put this down as a draft title for a blog post, I’d been having a particularly bad week in the ORvR lakes, things weren’t happening. The acquistion of RPs was slow and I was just grinding along, without any joie de vivre. All this was at the embarassingly low RR of 35, god knows what it was going to be like in the 50’s and 60’s.
However and there is an however, which is actually related to an experience I had a couple of nights ago, and which proved to be educational. In an exception to my normal modus operandi, I actually stuck around and worked through a whole zone capture with a warband. So a nod to Torst for running it, also to the other warband members for actually sticking together and functioning as a unit, without feeling the need to shout counter orders on the /wb. Of course I was using my KotBS Eldric, but that wasn’t held against me.
Now I hope you notice, I took down the warband leaders name. I thought that since my previous comments on warbands being faceless entities, that I should make more of an effort to learn my comrades names (Very USSR, with that comrades reference).
Anyway a few nights ago, I (2 or 3 warbands tbh) actually took 2 keeps and about 3 BO’s in reasonably quick succession. But the real shocker was the amount of RPs I was awarded when the zone switched…. 9000+. I hadn’t realised, because I hadn’t got involved that much, what the payback was if you had worked through the whole zone and then flipped it. At level RR35, that was worth about 20% of the RP bar, I mean it was a serious amount. It then dawned on me, the exact meaning/purpose of some of the changes over the past 6 months. I think, as is often the case with updates, if they don’t tie into something you already familiar with, they just tend to hang out there. You read the patch notes, but don’t always get what they are saying.
Now this is not to say that I was entirely happy, given that the whole zone capture had been a PvE experience. So on one hand, having no real defenders had provided a plethora of RPs relatively quickly, the RvR portion of the evening had been a bit of a damp squib. Like Destruction had just absconded to another dimension. Maybe it’s a good thing, at least my FPS’s didn’t spend as much time in the red as normal.
[/whine on] One final thing. Can we please get rid of the collision detection within our own realms. I was hammering away at a keep door, when the /wb message blasted out, INC. So I got off the ram and then tried to move away from the door. Could I move and get involved? Could I buggery, I was pinned to that door like someone had taken an acetylene torch to my armour and welded me there. If someone has seen the justifications for having this facility function on your own realm mates, please do me a favour and point me to the article.[/whine off]
