One of the more interesting things in the 1.3.1 leaked patch notes has to be the scenario quitter debuff, to help motivate those people who like to wimp out when the going gets too tough (See just below for exact text). I don’t think it takes Deep Thought to figure out my particular standpoint on this issue. I have little time for people who log out (IRL issues accepted), when the battle starts going against them, or join up midway and quit immediately since the current scoreline doesn’t promise a favourable outcome.
Players who leave a Scenario prior to a Scenario’s completion will now be given a Quitter! debuff. This debuff prevents the gain of Experience and Renown for five minutes.
Please remember that this isn’t guaranteed to make it into the 1.3.1 patch, since they were leaked, but the chances are good (Well I certainly hope so).
Now internally within my guild, a couple of people have expressed the opinion that the debuff is to harsh, but I don’t agree in the slightest, which is my prerogative (One of them, Tesla was a chronic choo choo er and therefore his opinion is worthless, sorry Tesla). You join a scenario, then should be prepared to stick it out, no matter how it’s going. If it’s unbalanced, then a person leaving your side, isn’t going to help with rectifying the balance issue, now is it. Hell if it’s that one sided it’s going to be over quick anyway, sometimes these things are merely a matter of gaining some momentum.
How often do you see a chunk of slots reserved in the scenario group list, then that group doesn’t join and you are down X players from the outset. It’s not like you are going to want the server to kill the scenario, that’s not going to generate a lot of love, you want it to fill up those slots as quickly as possible. So you can be down a 100 points before things get going again, then things can be going south, until you actually get enough people respawning to provide a decent reinforcement wave.
I know on my server, that scenario’s weren’t popping very frequently in tier 4, so preemptively leaving it, just means that the some of the people who you want to fight in the next scenario pop are currently engaged else where, like in the scenario you just left. Surely fighting it out in a scenario has got to be better than the constant pilgrimage of swapping keeps and BO’s, unless of course Warhammer is merely a exercise in acquiring points, in the most expedient manner.
If people think the penatly is harsh, then shouldn’t join scenario’s, since they are effectively utilising a slot that may have been used by someone else, who has a bit more backbone.
Quitters nearly annoy me as much as those people who stick themselves in single person groups in the scenario, they sit at the top of the self centred people pile. Which if that’s a persons motivation, then is really playing a MMO the type of game they should be partaking in?
Mythic maybe doing people a real favour with this debuff, forcing them to stick it out and fight. I know for a fact that my most memorable scenarios have been ones where Order has turned the table on Destruction, after being 200/300/400 points behind. Those are the great contests, the ones where your foe is going to be grinding their teeth, while wondering “How the F**k did we lose that”. Scenarios like Battle for Praag can have real ebb and flows in fortune. I mean, if we are not careful we could have people asking for a pre scenario selection board, to allow them select from ongoing scenarios, which most match their expected return.
It’s amazing how a couple of lines in the patch notes, can really get the juices flowing. Have a good day.
