Well I finally got “into” LotD this week. I tried to work out, what the beep beep I needed to do and generally do a little bit of exploring. I hadn’t logged onto the PTS servers while this patch was up for testing, since I wanted it to be nice and fresh when I first logged on. Plus I have bugger all spare time and when it comes down to it, testing versus playing, isn’t going to happen.
Anyway, it was quite quickly after I first logged on, that I noticed that I wasn’t seeing any PQ information coming up, when I was clearly within a PQ area. WTF I thought, this was making my participation in the PQs a little bit of a challenge. Having no clear idea of what was involved, forced me to do a bit of player watching, to get some kind of inkling. Of course if that failed, I fell back onto my standard response when clueless, which was use to my shiny sword (no that’s not a code for anything) and hit things.
Now obviously this information blackout while in a PQ couldn’t continue. So I contacted my fellow guildies (See final paragraph) and asked if anyone else had had any similar problems. Digi (He who has 6 lvl 40’s and really needs to get a job), intimated that creating a new profile and putting in all old addons, was a good path to a solution.
I therefore heeded said advice and created a new profile with no addons, then went into a PQ and wooh the PQ info was displayed. So I copied all my addons back in, re-enabled all and performed a /reloadui. The dammed PQ information had disappeared again. Boulderdash.
To cut a long story short, I spent the next couple of hours adding each addon back into the addons directory, enabling + /reloadui, starting with the ones I felt were most important to my play experience, like healgrid and equipmentsets. Now I had a feeling before I started all this, which one was most likely to have caused an issue, but I stuck to my guns and systematically worked through them all. After each addon was loaded and enabled, I would walk in and out of the PQ area, to check that they were disappearing/reappearing.
So finally I had got down to the last one (By design), Warboard. Now warboard is very useful for displaying lots of pertinent information. However it’s not a deal breaker, if it had to go, then it wouldn’t be the end of the world. It’s a very nice to have. Now warboard is made up of many mini components, which require the base warboard addon to be there, for them to work. For instance FPS, Coins, Realm Rank, Experience, Guild Rank, Friends online + a few others, and they all sit in one line at the top of the screen.
So now I started adding each of these mini warboard components back into the addons directory, when finally I found the culprit ….. Warboard_inf. As soon as this was included, the PQ information disappeared. Now I have to be honest, I don’t remember having this problem when I was playing Warhammer prior to LotD. So I have to conclude that changes in relation to LotD borked it. However in the end, Warboard_inf was sacrificed to the great god JuJu and life has moved on. Nevertheless, it wasn’t how I would normally choose to spend a Saturday evening.
On a final note, can we please sort out /gu again, it’s once again up a creek without a paddle and makes life very difficult to organise events and just talk crap. Mythic if you are going to have multiple code bases to develop different things at the same time, can we make sure bug fixes are being properly applied to all code bases. If it’s not that complicated, can you please have the decency to make sure things stay fixed. This whole 2 steps forward 1 step back process that you feel the need to adhere to, gets dreadfully wearing after 8 months. Grumpy blog writer signing out.
PS – I have had my first ever blue screens with Warhammer (2 infact), since LotD arrived. I hadn’t had one in all the time prior to that. Unlucky or LotD, your call.
