This is a follow on to my previous commentary on medallions. Firstly this is an acknowledgement that I missed this very important nugget within the original Mythic post. It was only when I saw a post made by Grimnir of Grimnirs Grudge on Wizards and Wenches, that I went back and did a re read. What am I talking about? Here we go…
Every player kill has a fairly reasonable chance to drop a medallion appropriate to that players level, this medallion can then be rolled on by group members participating in the kill (or master looted). This will occur in an RvRsituation including outside of the ORvR areas and in scenarios.
Yep, after all the work Mythic have done at lessening the impact of scenarios, they are going to allow players to collect medallions from player kills in scenarios. So given the choice of going into ORvR versus scenarios to gain my medallions, it’s a no brainer. You will go with what will most likely provide the best opportunity for a gain, which is always going to be scenario fights. Sure you will be rolled over every so often in a scenario, but compared to ORvR, it’s going to be the best bet for even fight, especially at level 40. We could end up with ORvR being a wasteland again as people gear up, character x, y and z.
Now it kind of makes sense to award medallions in the lower tiers (1-3). How else would we obtain those lower tier set armours? Random chance and time will always be against the player. But it presents Mythics with a dilemma. Do you really want those medallions being accumulated from character level 31 onwards, from scenarios?. How many tier 4 medallions will people be able to obtain, before they reach 40? I know I am partaking in a good number of scenario fights, even at level 26. However to switch off this functionality in the last tier, would only come across as being perverse on Mythics part, regardless of any wordy explanation, which 90% of the players would never read.
Maybe this is why 250 medallions for the annihilator shoulders seems high. Mythic have factored in, that players after leveling up a new character could arrive at 40, with a ruck load of medallions/armour already.
The best I can hope for, is that the medallion drop rate in scenarios, is lower than in ORvR. But this would need to be conveyed to the player base, in a way that is clear and concise. Not some post within a post, on some pokey little bulletin board. Otherwise you’d give the impression that scenario medallion drop rates are broken, when in fact they are lower by design.
Ultimately though, players already get XP and RPs from scenarios, why give them even more rewards. I know Mythic stated that they wish for set armour in tier 4 to less dependant on the gods of random chance, but where do they really want to go with the end game, because this may well take us back down a route, best left untraveled.
Bringing all my thoughts together, it would go something like this. I would prefer medallions not to drop in scenarios at all, if they must, then only include them in scenarios for tiers 1 – 3, but I am definitely against it for tier 4. If they have to go into tier 4 scenarios, then decrease the drop rates within tier 4 scenarios, maybe going as far as decreasing the drop rate in scenarios, from tier to tier. Say 100% tier 1, 75% tier 2, 50% tier 3 and then down to 25% in tier 4 of the original drop rate.
