Can something be too successful? Well Codpeace of Knights Of The Feathered Hat seems to think so, with an article entitled “The Darker Side Of Zone Domination“. It’s a ruddy good read and well worth clicking on (read it before continuing any further on here). It certainly gets the old gray matter swirling.
As with all things in life, there are always unforeseen consequences of any action. Now in this case Mythic could have anticipated capital cities being under a constant barrage and are merely waiting to see how things play out before taking development any further.
Obviously the problem is slightly more serious than losing levels from your capital city and thus denying the population access to certain facilities. You could end up with your capital city becoming a worthless object and being deemed not worth fighting over, which I am sure is far from an ideal situation from Mythics standpoint. I don’t think they want to allow that thought to become prevalent.
Codpeace suggests having a 3 day lockout on attempting a retake of a capital city. But this could end up stilting the ORvR action that the introduction of domination has generated. Realistically we need to allow a constant assault, otherwise we could end up with a why bother attitude.
What we need to have, are the other capital cities back, thereby presenting the player base with an additional 2 capitals per side to sack. This would allow one city to be constantly sacked and raised to level 1, but still having 2 other capital cities potentially running at levels 4 and 5, offering the access to the facilities that we currently take for granted. Remember it’s a slow process to increase the cities level and to have it constantly bombed back into the stone age, will not garner much attachment.
What I would like though, is for certain very high level X’s (Not sure what X is) only being available from your races capital city.
The ultimate question is, do people actually give a flying fandango about their capital cities?
A final point, which is indirectly linked to this topic, but has more to with the actual sacking of the capital cities, Mark Jacobs has stated:-
9) City Raiding for fun and profit – The City Raid experience that we currently have in the game will also get some additional work. Our primary goal is to add more RvR opportunities throughout the entire Raid. We are looking at a number of options and possibilities under consideration for more “RvR” and less “PQ action”. For example, players will no longer be able to bypass other players in City Selection and you will no longer have City Instances which are 40 vs. 0!
This was taken from his latest Warhammer State Of The Game. Finally people cannot defend a city sacking by picking empty PQs. Again this is should have been in from the start. It seems that we have had quite a few situations where your foes inaction has proven to be surprisingly effective tactic in denying your side any progress. Ho hum.
