Of all the changes in 1.2, the possibility for an instant ORvR fight, has got me the most excited. Yes it’s “Rally Cry Time“. Now since Mythic have organised some nice tie ins to the Live Event tasks (Kill 25 orcs/dwarfs, collect 10 weapons), then this function has a good chance of initially working. Maybe we can have the “Rocky” tune playing as we port in, just to set the right kind of mood.
This one function could be a real instigator of change, just kick starting the action in a ORvR lake. Unfortunately it does depend on the player base to make it happen, but with the right mindset, we could make it work.
Here’s how you get Snafzg:
he pulls a knife, you pull a gun.
He sends one of yours to hospital,
you send one of his to the morgue!
That’s the Altdwarf way!
And that’s how you get Snafzg.
The problem is going to be, porting into an unbalanced fight. I mean, what are people expecting to see when they port in. Rolling clashes involving hundreds of people across a sprawling landscape, small fire fights in multiple locations or a one sided cake walk. That’s always going to be the dilemma with anything that Mythic can dream up, it can so easily be consigned to the failed experience dust bin, by peoples inability to engage.
Now ideally I wouldn’t have launched this new function along with all the other stuff. But with the Bitter Rivals live event tying itself into the new scenario and ORvR requirements, Mythic are trying to get ORvR going/perpetuating in the lower tiers, unfortunately the new Domination mode could meet all the requirements of the ORvR portion of the Bitter Rivals. You know sometimes you can have to much of a good thing. Now Mythic may be viewing this is an important time to strike a blow for increased subscription numbers, so they are throwing everything but the kitchen sink at generating positive press waves.
What is intriguing me, is what impact this will have on the scenario pop rate? If this works to well, it could turn scenario’s into a wasteland. Is this a bad thing? Well it could be if you are looking for reasonably balanced fights (yes yes, we all know how unbalanced some scenario’s can be), or trying to get your twisting tower live events.
Now I can also see why Rally Cry was limited to just the 1st 3 tiers. The tier 4 ORvR lakes are just to vast, so really that instant fight concept is not going to work, if it take 3 minutes or so to travel to the centre of the ORvR lake or wherever the action is.
Question? Is the Rally Cry just for your tiers racial pairing or does it pull you from the dwarf vs orc to the elf vs dark elf pairing ORvR lake?
The one thing that the 1.2 patch could also provide and what would make me seriously happy, would be having to occasionally queue to get onto my server. I know that makes me appear perverse, but it would mean that my server is fully populated and I think that makes for a happier Warhammer experience. Now when I started this there wasn’t any inkling of server merges, which I believe are now in the wind. I wasn’t talking about server mergers, but organic growth of population numbers.
Finally Game Of Thrones is to start filming in Oct 2009, George R R Martin fans rejoice.
