What a bitter disappointment.
Well I would say bitter disappointment, if I could have actually reached it. You see there is a bit of an annoying flaw. To get to the scenario that controls ultimate access to the IC, you need to go to a portal in the north of the Maw, which is north of the chaos wastes. Well guess what happens to your whole IC experience if you have 30 odd destruction sitting outside the Maw portal and you missed the initial rush to get inside? Answers on a postcard to “Annoyed Of Karak Eight Peaks”.
Now is this single entry portal to the IC scenarios a deliberate design feature or was it just something that was reported as an issue in the Beta and just hasn’t been resolved yet? Anyway after 30 minutes of this less than enjoyable experience, I decided to log off and watch some paint dry instead. I know, I certainly have better things to do with my time than put up with this sort of nonsense. People will not make more than a couple of attempts trying to get through this type of blocking and will rarely hang around for a group to assemble which is large enough to bulldoze it’s way in. One second, I need to go and grab a brown paper bag and breathe deeply into it.
Maybe we need 3 entrances, not in directline of sight of each other, which would require the opposition to either split their forces or stay at one and post sentries at the others. Obviously, the time taken for the opposition to move between the entrances, is going to need to be greater than the time taken for your side to move through into the entrance, once insight of said entrance.
Anyway, I come back a day later and Order is having another go at the IC. So this time I actually made it into the scenario. Oh boy was I in for a surprise, what a bloody bore it was. How can a RvR game have such a limp process for capturing the city. Where’s the fighting and the bloodshed between Order and Destruction, because from where I am standing it’s a pigging disaster. I have seen more RvR action in my toilet.
If the keeps and fortresses have problems, then the city takes are stuck in a mire of pig muck and it’s not just me. Just prior to getting into this IC prequel, I chatted on vent and asked why the others in the guild weren’t involved in the IC take, the answer from Bluesky was “Wait until you have tried it and then you will know”. Boy, it was like being smacked between the eyes, total Yawnhammer. What’s even worse is all the other scenarios were locked down and I couldn’t even accumulate rps doing something interesting, notice the keyword here, INTERESTING. Where’s that brown bag when I need it, I am starting to hyperventilate again.
Another thing, where is the game guidance for new players. Where do I get told where the action is. I think and I am not completely sure about this, but I only get told the action is now in the IC, when I entered the Maw. What about all the other zones in this game? There needs to be more communication from the game about what’s going on. It’s like having to fly to each zone, to see if there is any action in the zone, which I find is not a good use of my game time.
As you can probably deduce, I was seriously unimpressed by the whole experience. If this is the best that Mythics finest can come up with, them maybe we need to go back to where the servers crashed on keep/fortress takes, since that way we don’t need to subject people to that abomination again. We can also maintain the mystique that taking the capital city is going to be fun, epic, game defining. Since at the moment, the only thing I can comfortably say is, I am not going to attempt it again for a while. I will let some other poor sap grind through that nonsense for 4+ hours.
Another small point which is totally unrelated, can we have a losing bonus for scenarios, since when you spend 15 minutes being slapped around by the other side and are given a paltry 45 rps, it’s not a great motivator for staying in the scenario until the end. Now I haven’t quit a scenario early yet, but I can see why people jack them in early, once they realise they are about to get a thumping, WoW has a nice 15/20 min ban on re-entering scenarios when you crash/quit out. Obviously we would need to make sure that people don’t get given anything for sitting on their arses. Minor grumble over.
