Skar’s 39 … Bring it on, oh yes, the end is in sight. It’s alittle sad that I have fallen into this mindset, but I fancy a change after 4 months on the same character.
Oh to clarify that’s the rank of my character, not my age, unfortunately I am older than my character. The respect my age has garnered me within the guild, is highlighted by my guild title, Senile. Oh those little scallies from my guild.
On Tuesday I posted links to various fellow Warhammer bloggers, which I also sent onto Voodoo Extreme (VE) via email and suggested that this would make an interesting news item. The news item that was posted by VE, basically pointed people at my blog and the relevant post. It indicated that I worked it all out, which was more than a bit embarrassing, since I had said nothing of the sort in my email. The real point of my blog that day was the cleverness of the campaign, not to steal credit from other people. Obviously I have apologised to the bloggers in question and they have gracefully accepted.
Regardless of this boo boo, it did offer an opportunity to track the total number of visitors who travelled to this blog via the link on VE. Which at this time stands at 291. These are people who were interested enough in the subject matter to make the effort to click the link. Now I have got to be honest, this was a little bit disappointing, since the whole idea was to get out there, the coming of 2 new careers and the clever way in which Mythic had hinted at it.
Now only roughly half had clicked through to the blogs which contained the real meat of the whole viral campaign. Maybe if the news article had been better constructed, it would have been higher.
The other sad thing, is the lack of comments on the news item on VE, which when I last checked it, was comment less. Have we come so far down the track, that people can’t even be nasty about Warhammer, let alone positive. When first Warhammer appeared, it was generating a lot greater vibrancy in the comments section on this news site.
Lets hope the PR people out in Mythicville can do a lot better job than me. I gather that Eurogamer had a report, but I can’t reach it at the moment.
If we take one positive from this whole thing, maybe we have added a few non warhammer blog readers to the pool of blog readers, since obviously news sites have become mouthpieces for the various games companies, Billy “Wicked” Wilson will be turning in his grave. If you want commentary on your favourite MMOs, then reading blogs will nowadays reward you to a far greater extent.
Today is the big day for Warhammer news, so lets hope I get a quiet day at work tomorrow, nudge nudge wink wink, say no more.
