When I wander through the various forums related to Warhammer and I sure it is the same for many other MMORPGs, you get the impression that people honestly feel that their side or class is getting shafted. It can be something like the position of the warcamps, distribution of key abilities, damage output, items which proc when others don’t, etc etc. The problem is, that people focus in on specific things and don’t/can’t see the bigger picture (Overall Balance).
Now sometimes people post and the tongue is firmly in cheek, they maybe peeved but that’s as far as it gets, but occasionally people can get really unpleasant. I think that would be me putting a decidedly positive spin on it. Especially given some of the comments I have read. I need only cast my mind back to the posts made when GOA FUBARed the early registration in Europe for Warhammer, that gave a real indication of people vitriol. Without doubt the internet separates the poster from any real consequence and it’s instantaneous nature doesn’t allow a cooling off period. I have been in a few threads wars, where in hindsight I should have left well alone. Normally a good nights sleep puts things into perspective.
Now within our Warhammer world, which we must be remember was an early birth, we have the haves and have nots. Now a lot of these issues will be washed out over the coming months. When people design something or write something, then they become very close to that thing and end up being unable discern the wood from the trees. This is where the Mythic designers are/were at during beta. The game was never hammered anywhere near the level it is now. 100’s of thousands of people are playing 20 odd classes, comparing their classes/environments to others in ways that a spreadsheet can never do and a vocal minority are standing on their soap boxes and saying, how the beep beep can you missed X, Y and Z.
Really there is no conspiracy going on. If anything it’s incomptence on Mythics part and possibly not listening to the beta testers enough, it’s not any predetermined need to favour one side over the other. This is a business and in this case, you don’t take sides, you merely try to offer as much balance as possible and keep taking those subscriptions.
Where’s Mel Gibson when you need him?
PS – I still believe the moon landings were faked. Elvis and Jim Morrison are still alive and living on the Isle Of Dogs in London. Nuff said.
