Last night on vent, I got into what can only be called a heated discussion with a fellow guildie about this. He was getting annoyed, since he felt that he was paying £9 a month for an unfinished product. I think the number of issues which seem to have crept in with 1.1, have put his back up. His and a few others to be honest, they feel aggrieved, arsed off, etc etc.
Now personally I am willing to cut Mythic some slack on this, since being a software developer I appreciate how complex these systems probably are. But am I being too soft on this, should I be more annoyed or even irrate? It is a tough one. I suppose when I sign up for a new MMORPG I kind of expect “issues”, but it’s become the defacto standard. Maybe because I level so slowly, it’s allowing the developer plenty of time to put their house in order. That’s probably a major contributor to my laissez faire attitude towards the issues in the game. But since I am posting about them here on this blog, I am not being totally hands off.
Now I can understand the rush on getting 1.1 out of the door. It’s christmas and EA/Mythic need bums on seats. So anyone who gets this game in their stocking, needs to be grabbed better than those in the initial release rush. So the KotBS and Blackguard, the ORvR influence bars are all good things, plus the myriad of other bits and pieces. This rush job on 1.1 has compromised quality, but honestly though, I think it was the right thing to do. The game needs this patch, just as much as 1.2 will hopefully further cement the ORvR inprovements and drag people back in.
Finally to finish, before I rush off to watch “The Day The Earth Stood Still”. I was involved in some brutal action in Saphery last night and the frame rate was very very nice, especially considering there were a lot of people on the screen.
Now the only thing that concerned me, was the slow accumulation of ORvR influence, maybe it’s just me, but taking the BO’s seems to generate more influence than killing people. Lets hope that last night was abnormality, because otherwise it’s going to be boring. I actually thought after a while, that the influence bar was stuck. Yet after what seems an age, I got a slither of blue. It’s always going to be hard, when you have no proper metric to guage these things, so a lot of the time it’s based on my perception, which rarely is that good. But heh progress has been made.
