Okay I’m a bit confused/angry by the purpose of the changes and the need to insert a new armour set between Warlord and Sovereign. These are the new RR’s for armour, bar the new set “Worn”:-
The Renown Rank and level requirements for several item sets have been reduced to allow players to use them sooner in their careers. This applies to the following sets: Annihilator, Conqueror, Invader, and Warlord.
o Annihilator – Level 25 to use, equipable at renown ranks 25-29
o Conqueror – Level 35 to use, equipable at renown ranks 30-35
o Invader – Level 39 to use, equipable at renown ranks 40-45
o Warlord – Level 40 to use, equipable at renown ranks 54-60
All of these armour sets prior to this RR change were easy to obtain, I don’t care what people say or think. By the time you needed to start buying this armour, you normally had 2 or 3 items already in the bank and plenty of crests stored away. Hell you were getting Invader and Warlord crests for basically turning up at any zone flip, even when you lost. Sovereign is a different matter, but that’s not subject to the change.
Now we have the situation where the required RR for an armour set has been bumped down quite significantly. Where as warlord was 65 – 70 it’s now 54 – 60. You are not going to have the crests to buy the all the warlord armour by the time you get to 60, and that would frustrate me. Whereas when you were targeting RR70 as the final piece, it was comfortable and well within reach.
I really don’t understand why fortitude wasn’t added to all armour as a way of mitigating the damage advantage the higher level amours gave. It’s not rocket science, since all you had to do was use the level of an amour piece as guide to how much fortitude it got (Well it’s easy when you store all your data in a database). Of course that doesn’t handle the damage inflicted side of things, but it would certainly allow you to toe to toe it for a bit longer and not crumple like a stack of cards.
Now we have the situation where crest accrual which worked fine up to warlord is now going to be whined about because it’s not delivering when it’s needed. Mythic are tampering with something that already works, which may well cause more development when the implications become clearer.
We have a new set of armour “Worn”, which I have to assume will be purchased with coin. Why have crests if you are going to do this, it’s moronic? This is a solution to the symptom not the problem and in my world you fix problems.
Dear Mythic, you caused the problem with the armour when you did properly consider the implications of your actions last time, and now you’re tampering with a working framework, which “only” required a reworking of the armour sets to make them more relevant in a world post 1.4.0. I really would like to understand Mythics thought process on this.
God give me strength.
As you can probably tell, I’m not particularly happy about this, because I just think it invalidates what’s already in place. It’s like using a sledge-hammer to crack a walnut.
Do you know what concerns me the most. Is that a group of adults with MMO experience, sat down discussed this change and decided it was okay. That isn’t a good indicator for the future now is it?
PS – If anyone from Mythic wants to email me about the reasons for this change and why it was done this way, then look in the About. I will post your response.
On the other hand… I’ve just realized that if I leave my alts in IC collecting rested XP long enough (as long as mythic keeps changing things like this), they will be adjusted up to be able to wear Sov. and hit 90 in 2 weeks. Sweet. You wait… I’ll have an army of toons I don’t know how to play soon! *evil cackle*
A funny jest, but with an underlying truth.
Like using a sledgehammer to crack a walnut, taking out the wall on the other side of the room and deciding that’ll do instead.
They missed the walnut entirely.
It seems I’m not the only one suffering a brain meltdown after seeing those patch notes.
They’ve gone and tampered with the armor/renown rank/crest amount setup they’ve been trying to perfect for at least 5 patch cycles, all to fix the overpoweredness of the new armor sets. Which doesn’t make any sense. Not to mention that they obviously don’t see a problem in melee dps having defensive sets that only have about 15% lower DPS than the offensive ones, in addition to upping their defensive capabilities to the level of a tank AND having an unmitigatable proc that heals for 500ish (700ish on DF). Let me reiterate – UNMITIGATABLE 10% proc.
I’ve been wondering if Mythic are heavy pot smokers for a while now. I bet they’re sitting in their offices all stoned and laughing at us scrambling around and trying to make sense of their game.
Oh and Grimnir, you’ve reminded me of a story of a German dude who wanted to wall off the only entrance to his basement. So he went and did some DIY handiwork and made a wall there. But he did it from the wrong side, which meant he was trapped inside his basement. After a day of noone answering his yelling and noone coming to rescue him, he decided to take his sledgehammer and breach the opposite wall – the one he shared with his neighbours basement. Apparently he didn’t want to destroy his own newly-made wall. Reminds me of someone. Hmm…
I feel like pulling out what little hair remains. I really don’t understand Mythic, I really don’t.
You see, I pride myself in my normal work at being able to look at all angles to get a good understanding of a problem or solution, but this one has me stumped.
Leave the amour RRs alone and rework the armour already in the game.
We already have changes to the RR banding for the tiers, why fuck about even more.
