This last weekend brought a couple of things to the table, which when combined provided for an extremely pleasant experience, even for a pugger like myself. Obviously the title tells you what these were.
This particular combination of event and feature had perked a very real interest, which as per normal, I didn’t get to exploit anywhere near as much as I would have liked. I also hadn’t had much chance to try out Against All Odds prior to the weekend.
This is the first time where I actually felt that being in the bigger open field battles, was actually rewarding to the player. Now please remember I’m looking at this solely from the view-point of a pugger. No guild/alliance warbands for me, just jump straight in and see what hand random chance dealt me.
I’ve felt for a very long time, that the rp’s awarded for a big battles were derisory. The amount of time involved, the number of parties involved in the kill, the chances of a wipe, often mitigated any real reward, beyond the actual taking of a BO or Keep beyond the battle itself, which are where the real RP’s are earnt for pugger like myself. It’s not a great position for a game to be in, when it’s the static objectives which give a player the real points to progress with.
Obviously if I had a warm glow inside, then I could only imagine what the other more focused warbands and alliances were feeling. They must have had a raging inferno of happiness. I mean the only thing that would poop on their party, would be if the Against All Odds was against them.
It does make me wonder if a few more weekends like this wouldn’t be such a bad thing. Though, you wouldn’t want the only time people played, to be when you had a double bonus weekend. I’m intrigued about what advancement could be had if you combined these factors with the flattening of the RP curve for the RR1-80 and potentially any RP acceleration “Potions” that may be offered in the RVR Packs.
As with all things, it has to be handled with great care and like the entry path of the shuttle through earths atmosphere, any wide variations need to be avoided. I know I give Mythic stick when I feel they’ve underperformed, like the PR mess this last week, but ultimately I’m still playing and enjoying the game and that’s the real yardstick in my book.
